The espresso Martini is a modern classic cocktail which was invented by Dick Bradshell in late 1980s. So, the story starts in a cafe, Fred’s Club where Bradshell revolutionized the cocktail scene in London through his work at multiple bards. One fine day, a young model of that time, came and asked for a unique drink that can wake her up and make her soul energised. Bradshell now mentions that the model is now world famous! He found the situation challenging but, coffee machine was next to him at the bar stand. Thus, he made coffee liquor and got espresso coffee beans and for awakening her soul, alcohol was required. But, people that time used to consumer Vodka. Hence, he made combination of fresh espresso beans, coffee liqueur, vodka, and a hint of honey and mixed it for a frothy texture.

Bradshell gave this drink which wasn’t mentioned in menu itself and gave it a name of Vodka Espresso and later, Pharmaceutical Stimulant before finalizing Espresso Martini. Later, it was experiment by Bradshell to make coffee liqueur froths separately and then, adding vodka. This gave espresso martini an amazing frothy look along with vodka at the bottom. Firstly, the drink was serve in a V-shaped Martini glass and added three espresso beans at its top.

Who Gave Espresso Martini Drink?

Likewise we mentioned story of Dick Bradshell to make Martini and serving it to the model. There are some other story too that operates in North America. So, the story stars when a Bartender himself felt sleepy and needed something to energize his body and soul.   • Using NIQ CGAs cocktail tracker the espresso martini nearly doubled in velocity by mid-2023 earning quarterly growth of 11% and surpassing Long Island Iced Tea to become the sixth most popular cocktail after making it onto the list of the top 10 cocktails served on-premise in 2022. 
  • According to Unions OnPrem Insights which collects data from more than 1000 high volume accounts using the POS platforms at bars and restaurants the cocktail grew by 50% during the 12-month period ending September 30 2023 right on the heels of the Old Fashioned and it is still popular heading into 2024. 
  • But not all of them are bar patrons. 
  • Due to the increase in RTD espresso martinis ready-to-drink (RTD) martinis were the subcategories on Drizly with the fastest growth rates when compared to 2022. 
  • According to NIQ data overall off-premise espresso martini RTD sales for the most recent 52 weeks ending December 30 2023 increased 252 percent in dollar sales compared to the prior year. 
  • Cold brew cocktail styles saw a 13 percent increase while coffee and cream cocktail styles saw a 79 percent decrease. 
  • At the start of 2023 the number of prepared espresso cocktail UPCs increased by 180 percent compared to the same period the previous year indicating that more RTD brands have been following suit. In 2022 Post Meridiem introduced their Espresso Martini. The SKU recently surpassed the Cosmopolitan variety of the brand as one of the top three.
